Blade Runner 2099 is an eight-episode limited series on Prime Video, premiering November 25, 2026 (all episodes drop at once, worldwide in 240+ countries).
It continues the franchise set 50 years after Blade Runner 2049.
The New World and Order
In 2099 Los Angeles, a Replicant uprising (bubbling in the earlier films) has already happened—and humans lost.
Replicants are now the power brokers of the city; humans are second-class citizens.
The city has been reborn by Replicants rather than humanity, drawing on their terraforming experience from off-world colonies to help heal a wrecked Earth.
Showrunner Silka Luisa has described the aesthetic as “sunshine noir”: hotter, stickier, brighter, and more coastal (including Santa Monica) than the rainy neon of the original films, while still feeling like classic Blade Runner—practical sets, spinners (flying cars), and a lived-in, tactile world.
It is framed as the dawn of a new era and the “birth” of a Replicant-led society.
The tagline “A new world. A new order. A new Blade Runner” fits the premise of inverted power dynamics and a fresh entry point for the story.
The Story
Cora (Hunter Schafer) is a human fugitive who has spent her life changing identities to survive and protect her little brother.
In a final bid to stop running, she assumes one last identity: a Blade Runner—posing as a Replicant and going undercover with the LAPD.
She is paired with Olwen (Michelle Yeoh), a veteran Replicant Blade Runner in the final days of her life (signaled visually by blue-tinged nail beds, nodding to the original film’s aging Replicants).
Together they investigate a conspiracy that could collapse their fragile city—centered on missing Replicants (dozens reported gone), a runaway or missing colleague (referred to as Merrick or Marek in reports), a possible cure for all Replicants, and a criminal gang of Replicants who reject the idea of acting human.
Olwen is nominally hunting human insurgents but is actually pursuing a deeper mystery.
It is positioned as a noir detective/undercover story (comparisons to The Departed or Chinatown in the Blade Runner world) exploring mortality on both personal (Olwen’s impending death) and species-level (what happens when humanity’s time ends) scales, plus identity and the blurring line between human and Replicant.
Key Cast and Crew
- Michelle Yeoh as Olwen (dying Replicant Blade Runner)
- Hunter Schafer as Cora (human undercover as Blade Runner)

Jonathan van Tulleken directed the first two episodes.
Filming took place mainly at Barrandov Studios in Prague (with work in Barcelona) and wrapped in late 2024 after earlier delays.
Trailers and key art dropped at San Diego Comic-Con (July 2026 teaser) and New York Comic-Con (full trailer and additional footage in October 2026), emphasizing the cyberpunk atmosphere, the Cora-Olwen partnership, and the Replicant-ruled future.
This is a major expansion of the franchise into television, with strong ties to the films’ themes while flipping the power structure. All eight episodes arrive November 25 on Prime Video.
