Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action film set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.
Deadline broke it today as an exclusive; Variety has confirmed it.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing with CD Projekt Red.
He is the longtime Paramount producer behind the Transformers and G.I. Joe films, plus Transformers One, Snake Eyes, and The Meg.
No director, writer, cast, plot, or release date has been named.
Reports only say the movie is set in that universe, so it is not clear yet whether this is a straight adaptation of V and Johnny Silverhand or a new Night City story in the vein of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
That is basically all that is public.
The project looks early — possibly pre-pre-production — so a finished film is likely years out.
Context around the announcement:
- Cyberpunk 2077 has sold more than 40 million copies; Phantom Liberty has sold about 15 million.
- Edgerunners season 2 hits Netflix on October 20.
- CD Projekt Red’s sequel, Cyberpunk 2, is in development with roughly 184 people on it.
- This is separate from CDPR’s 2023 live-action deal with Anonymous Content, which was described as an early-stage original Night City story and leaned more toward TV.
- Paramount is also pushing other game films: Street Fighter opens October 16, and a Call of Duty movie is in the works with Peter Berg directing and Taylor Sheridan writing, targeted around 2028.
Keanu Reeves (Johnny Silverhand) and Idris Elba (Solomon Reed in Phantom Liberty) are the obvious casting questions, but neither has been attached.
Reeves has previously said he is interested in the next game; nothing public ties him to this movie.
