Gears of War: E-Day (the new entry in the series from The Coalition / Xbox Game Studios, released October 6, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC) experienced DDoS attacks over its first weekend that caused intermittent disconnects, login issues, extended wait times, and other online service disruptions.
The official Gears Community account confirmed the cause on October 12:
“Earlier today, some players experienced intermittent disconnects, login issues, or other service disruptions in Gears of War: E-Day.
These issues were due to distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks targeting our online services.
Our teams are continuing to monitor and mitigate this activity.
We’ll provide updates if there are any significant changes. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
Xbox Support stated that service had returned to normal. Status pages later showed online services (login, matchmaking, store, post-match, and progression) as healthy across regions for both Xbox and Steam.
Problems began appearing on October 11 with login queues and disruptions (affecting multiplayer modes like Horde Siege and competitive play, and in some cases save syncing or campaign access when online features were involved).
Offline campaign play was possible for some players once issues were worked around.
No official information has been released on the attackers’ identity or motive; online speculation has included various theories, but nothing confirmed.
As of the latest reports on October 12, services were restored and under continued monitoring.
