Gears of War: E-Day Multiplayer Beta
Record-Breaking Steam Numbers
The early-access multiplayer beta for Gears of War: E-Day has already shattered franchise records on Steam. According to SteamDB, it hit a 24-hour peak of 14,331 concurrent players.
For comparison:
- Gears of War 5 previous peak: 10,196
- Gears of War: Tactics: 7,351
- Gears of War: Reloaded: 4,819
This is especially impressive because the current window is still limited to pre-order customers and Game Pass Ultimate / PC Game Pass subscribers. The full open beta (available to everyone) starts next week, so numbers are expected to climb higher.
Beta Schedule
- Early Access (pre-orders + Game Pass): August 6–10
- Open Beta (everyone): August 13–17
Originally the early access was Horde-focused, but The Coalition added Versus (PvP) modes after fan demand right before it went live.
What’s in the Beta
- Horde Siege — The evolved version of the classic Horde mode. It’s now a larger, multi-squad experience (up to 12 players) with shifting objectives and extraction elements.
- Versus (4v4) — Competitive modes including Team Deathmatch and others.
Both modes are limited slices of the full launch content (fewer maps, classes, and progression capped lower).
Rewards earned in the beta (skins, weapon sets, etc.) will carry over to the full game.
Exclusive Controller Coming
An insider report says Microsoft is preparing a limited-edition Gears of War: E-Day “Storm King” Xbox controller. Design details include a cracked black-and-red volcanic rock aesthetic with the Crimson Omen and accent red buttons. Expected price around $89.99, with an official announcement likely within the next couple of weeks.
Full Game Details
- Release date: October 6, 2026
- Platforms: Xbox Series X|S and PC (Xbox exclusive — no PlayStation version)

The strong early Steam numbers are a very positive sign for The Coalition and Xbox heading into the open beta next weekend.
