Virtuos, the port and remaster specialist behind the 2017 Nintendo Switch version of L.A. Noire, has publicly expressed strong interest in bringing Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 to Nintendo Switch.2
In a new interview with Pocket Tactics (published around May 17, 2026, to mark L.A. Noire’s 15th anniversary), Virtuos Technical Director Andy Fong stated:
“[The] team is eager to adapt Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 for the Nintendo Switch.
We’re personally big fans and believe these games can shine again on the Switch, delighting even more players.”
Background
Virtuos previously collaborated with Rockstar Games on the Switch (and last-gen console) ports of L.A. Noire in 2017 — Rockstar’s first release on Nintendo’s hybrid platform since Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars in 2009.
The port was well-received for maintaining a solid 30fps even on the original Switch hardware, including the Switch Lite.
The interview team (including Fong, Chief Delivery Officer Jake DiGennaro, and Senior Executive Producer Jeremie Boehm) reflected on the technical challenges of that earlier port, such as GPU optimizations, voxel-based occlusion culling, mesh adjustments, and upgrading from 32-bit to 64-bit to better utilize memory.
Switch vs. Switch 2 Context
While Fong specifically mentioned “Nintendo Switch,” many outlets note that ambitious open-world titles like GTA V (225+ million copies sold) and RDR2 (80+ million) would be significantly more feasible on the more powerful Nintendo Switch 2 (which has games releasing throughout 2026).
No official confirmation or announcement has come from Rockstar or Nintendo — this is purely Virtuos signaling willingness and enthusiasm.1
Why This Matters
Virtuos has built a strong reputation for high-quality ports and remasters (recent examples include The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered).
Their proven track record with Rockstar on L.A. Noire makes this statement particularly notable for fans hoping for more Rockstar presence on Nintendo hardware.
