PHYSINT is Hideo Kojima’s next original IP after Death Stranding — action-espionage, third KojiPro game.
Xbox published it after PlayStation walked. Today at the Xbox TGS broadcast he put a face on the lead: Bill Skarsgård.
What dropped this morning
Kojima closed the Xbox Tokyo Game Show show.
New poster he shot himself: Skarsgård next to Charlee Fraser.
Tagline on the art:
“The Next Cold War Begins.”
Behind-the-scenes of fittings, scans, camera tests from earlier this year. No gameplay.
No date.
He called it “the culmination of more than 40 years of my career” and said it will “redefine action-espionage, unbound by any existing genres.”
Cast so far
- Bill Skarsgård — lead (first video game role)
- Charlee Fraser (Furiosa)
- Don Lee (Train to Busan)
- Minami Hamabe (Godzilla Minus One)
Kojima: they are fans of each other’s work. More casting still coming.
How it landed on Xbox
Announced with PlayStation in 2024. Mid-June 2026 Sony told KojiPro the project was cancelled.
Kojima spent three months hunting a publisher.
Xbox already had OD with him. Deal closed last week.
Sony’s line was “step away” after “careful consideration” — later reporting pointed at budget, profit, exclusivity.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma called it a big moment.
Talks that led here started with her meeting Kojima in April. Partnership also covers film/TV, not just the two games.
OD in the same drop
Kojima said OD (also listed as OD–KNOCK) is progressing, showed performance-capture clips, and repeated that it will “test the thresholds of fear.”
Still no date. Xbox now publishes both.
What it is not
Not a Metal Gear sequel.
Not out this year.
Not a playable TGS demo.
PHYSINT is still years out.
Today was a cast-and-poster beat to prove the game survived the publisher swap.
