Saros: Zenith is a free update that dropped today (October 19, 2026) for the Housemarque PS5 roguelike shooter.
It’s designed around two clear goals from the developers: more replayability for people who already finished the game, and better accessibility so more players can enjoy the dense “bullet ballet” combat without watering down the core challenge.
Accessibility Options
These are the biggest quality-of-life additions for newcomers (or anyone who finds the projectile density overwhelming):
- Slow Game Speed: Slows the game so you have more time to read attack telegraphs and react to bullets. You control how much it slows down, and you can set it to trigger automatically in combat or toggle it manually when things get intense. The attacks themselves stay the same — you just get a wider window.
- Auto-fire: Your weapon fires automatically when aimed at a hostile. This removes the need to constantly hold the trigger (helpful for accessibility or just reducing mental load so you can focus on dashing/parrying). Perfect reloads are still manual and timed — skill expression isn’t fully removed.
- Motion Sensor Aiming: Gyro/motion aiming support on the DualSense.
- Other control options (button remapping was already present) and reports of high-contrast visual modes.
These sit alongside the existing systems rather than replacing them.
Eclipse Layers (New Game+)
After you clear the game once, new nodes appear on the Armor Matrix in the hub (Passage). These unlock the next Eclipse Layer — a harder, rule-altered version of the run.
- You must equip enough Carcosan Modifiers (especially Trials) to meet a threshold before starting a layer. There are now 25 Trials total to mix and match.
- Combinations can create dangerous synergies, so loadout planning matters.
- Visual progression: In Eclipse Layers, Arjun gains a Crown and golden-glowing armor. The more Trials you run (and the higher your Modifier Balance), the bigger and flashier the Crown becomes.
- The Crown isn’t just cosmetic. Higher Crown levels let you perceive Visions — 12 collectible murals/messages etched in stone by an ancient “Yellow King.” These add extra lore/story text that stays hidden at lower Crown levels.
Overlord Rush (Boss Rush)
A new arcade-style mode accessed from the Primary Unit in Passage. It’s a training simulation where you fight the game’s powerful Overlord bosses and chase high scores on leaderboards (requires internet/PSN).
Three sets:
- Incursion — 3 Overlords (~10 minutes)
- Ascension — 3 Overlords (~10 minutes)
- Totality — All 8 Overlords in one continuous gauntlet
Leaderboards can be filtered by main weapon, so you can chase category records even if you’re not at the overall top. It’s framed as both a personal skill test and a way to compete with friends.
20 New Carcosan Modifiers
The existing modifier system (Protections that make things easier/more forgiving, Trials that increase challenge) got a big expansion: 10 new Protections and 10 new Trials.
Half are available from the start; the rest unlock in Eclipse Layers.
Official examples:
- Protection – Corruption Melee Enhancement: Corruption (the status that normally eats your max Integrity when hit by certain projectiles) can be consumed on a melee hit for a big damage burst. It turns a scary mechanic into a risk/reward tool that encourages getting in close.
- Trial – Hostile Regeneration: Larger enemies can be stunned with normal weapons but will regenerate unless you finish them with a melee strike. Ranged-only play becomes much riskier.
These feed directly into Eclipse Layers requirements and the Crown progression.
Other Notes
- New trophies tied to the update content.
- Various balance/artifact adjustments (higher-tier artifacts, some modifier cost tweaks, etc.).
- The update is free for all owners and is relatively substantial (one report pegged it around 3.5 GB / version 2.0).
Housemarque’s design lead Abebe Tinari described it as a way to keep the satisfying high-challenge “bullet ballet” intact while giving players more control over difficulty and more reasons to return to Carcosa.
If you’ve already cleared the game, Eclipse Layers + Overlord Rush + the Crown/Visions loop are the main draws.
If the base game felt too intense, the Slow Game Speed and Auto-fire options (plus the new Protections) are the practical entry points.
