Silver Pines is out now (released October 8, 2026) on PC (Steam/Epic), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Developed by Wych Elm Games and published by Team17, it is a single-player survival horror Metroidvania with a distinctive stylish 2.5D (side-scrolling, often rotoscoped/hand-animated) presentation.
You play as private investigator Red Walker, who arrives in the half-abandoned American town of Silver Pines to find missing musician Eddie Velvet.
The investigation spirals into a nightmarish, dreamlike descent filled with the town’s dark secrets.
Key Features
- Classic survival-horror roots: Resource/inventory management, limited ammo and supplies, tense combat or evasion of monsters, environmental puzzles, and a focus on dread and atmosphere.
- Metroidvania exploration: Locked doors, hidden paths, backtracking, and new tools/weapons that open up more of the sprawling, multi-layered town.
- Tone and influences: Frequently compared to Silent Hill, Twin Peaks/David Lynch surrealism, Resident Evil, and Alan Wake. Neo-noir aesthetics, fog, and psychological unease over pure jump scares.
- Price around $24.99 (with a 10% launch discount on Steam through roughly October 22); a Deluxe Edition includes the artbook and soundtrack.
Reception
Critics have been strongly positive. OpenCritic sits around 87 (94% recommended), Metacritic around 85 on PC/PS5.
Reviews praise the gorgeous art direction, atmosphere, mystery, exploration loop, and how well it translates classic survival-horror tension into 2.5D.
Some note combat or certain systems as less refined, but overall it’s being called one of 2026’s standout horror titles and a strong debut.
