Spider-Noir is an upcoming live-action superhero television series from Amazon's Prime Video (also airing on MGM+), starring Nicolas Cage as an aged, world-weary version of a Spider-Man variant.
The show is set in 1930s New York City during the Great Depression era, blending classic film noir aesthetics with superhero elements.
It follows Ben Reilly (played by Cage), a down-on-his-luck private investigator haunted by his past as the city's sole superhero known as The Spider (or Spider-Noir).
After a personal tragedy, he's pulled back into action when a new case forces him to don the mask and webs again. The tagline playfully twists the iconic Spider-Man motto:
"With no power comes no responsibility."
This draws inspiration from Marvel Comics' Spider-Man Noir
(originally Peter Parker from Earth-90214, a hardboiled take on the character from the 2009 Spider-Man: Noir miniseries), but the series reimagines it with Ben Reilly in the lead role.
Nicolas Cage previously voiced a version of Spider-Man Noir in the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), and fans are excited to see him bring the character to live-action.
Key details:
- Premiere: May 25, 2026 on MGM+ (U.S. linear), with the full season dropping May 27, 2026 on Prime Video globally as a binge release.
- Format: Viewers can watch in authentic black-and-white (evoking 1930s/1940s noir films) or in full "True-Hue" color.
- Cast: Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly/The Spider, with supporting roles including Brendan Gleeson, Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Jack Huston, and others.
- Creators/Producers: Developed by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot (showrunners), with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal involved.
It's part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU) franchise in an alternate universe setting.
- Style: Expect gritty detective work, corrupt gangsters, fedoras, trench coats, web-slinging action, and Cage's signature intense, over-the-top energy in a campy yet dark tone.
The first teaser trailers (black-and-white and color versions) dropped recently, showing Cage as a fedora-wearing, hardboiled web-slinger chasing down trouble in shadowy streets.
If you're a fan of noir fiction, classic Spider-Man twists, or just Nicolas Cage being Nicolas Cage, this looks like it'll be a wild, stylish ride.
The trailers have been getting buzz for their atmosphere and Cage's casting.
