Blizzard’s next StarCraft is an open-world third-person game targeting Spring 2030.
Dan Hay (ex-Far Cry): create a character, play a story with a beginning, middle, and end.
“Think of it as a standalone boxed game.” Not seasonal. Not live service.
Set 70 years after Legacy of the Void. Marine-on-the-ground fantasy. No gameplay shown yet — cinematic only.
Official name for now: STARCRAFT. “Dominion” is the trailer, not the box.
Blizzard announced it at BlizzCon 2026. Official name right now is just STARCRAFT (all caps on the site). “Dominion” is the cinematic title, not a locked game title.
- Genre: open-world, story-driven third-person shooter
- Window: Spring 2030
- Setting: Koprulu Sector, ~70 years after StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void
- Lead: Dan Hay (ex–Far Cry / Ubisoft), Blizzard GM on the project
- Structure: create/name a character, follow one story with a beginning, middle, and end
- Hay’s line: treat it like a standalone boxed game, not a seasonal live-service title
- Focus: single-player, “Marine fantasy,” see the armor, feel powerful
- Platforms: not announced
- Gameplay: not shown — cinematic only (Terran recruit Holt, Zerg drop, Dominion propaganda; Protoss only hinted)
Hay’s tone references: Deadwood in space, boots in the mud, not god-view RTS.
You are the unit, not the commander. Armor that grows.
Possible class flavor later (Firebat / Ghost mentioned as examples, not confirmed loadouts).
Why announce it this early
Hay says the 2030 date is a target to keep the team honest after StarCraft: Ghost died in development hell.
Blizzard also wanted fan reaction before locking more design.
Updates expected over the next few years, not a 2027 ship.
Context worth one line
This is attempt three at a StarCraft shooter (Ghost, then Ares, both cancelled).
RTS fans wanted StarCraft III.
They’re getting a narrative TPS instead.
