Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is the 2027 Master Rank expansion for PS5, Xbox Series, PC, and Switch 2.
Story is set years after the base game. Lao-Shan Lung hits the Forbidden Lands, the expedition gets wrecked, they fall back, then later build Madoi Stronghold and wait for a rematch.
New locale is the floating Skybound Eyrie.
Unlock requirement: finish base-game Chapter 6-1, “Awakening from a Dream.”
Monsters confirmed today
- Teostra — the big TGS drop. Emperor of Flame is back; TGS floor demo is a Teostra hunt. Classic supernova kit.
- Gundoraja (also written Gundraza) — new storm-cloud Elder Dragon
- Kushala Daora
- Lao-Shan Lung — disaster-scale opener
- Araketa — new flocking bird wyverns that follow an alpha across the Eyrie

Boost Bracer (DLC combat)
This is the paid-expansion mechanic, not the free patch.
- Boost State temporarily juiced actions: new combos, boosted attacks, better guard
- Boost Drivers are the instant-on attacks (Rise Wirebug-ish charge system). Input cited as R1 + Triangle + Circle / RB + Y + A
- All 14 weapons get their own Boosted Action kit; Capcom already posted the full recap reel
Seikret also gets more vertical work in the Eyrie — updrafts and island-to-island glides.
Free Ver. 2 QoL (everyone gets this)
These ship with Ascendance’s version 2 update and do not require the DLC. This is what X is cheering.
- Faster weapon swap — primary/secondary swap without mounting Seikret. You can still call Seikret mid-hunt to hot-swap. This kills the biggest Wilds complaint.
- Item Box outside the tent — change weapons and armor even if they aren’t in a saved loadout.
- Hunter Loadouts — items + equipment + appearance bundled into one recall.
- Field Guide numbers — actual hide-toughness / weakness values, not just icons.
- HUD options — clock position, gauge effects, item-box display, classic-series look.
- Character Edit Vouchers are dead. From Ascendance launch you can re-edit hunter and Palico for free, unlimited. Transition plan: vouchers stop selling Dec 3, 2026. Everyone gets 10 hunter + 10 Palico vouchers to use until 2027. Anyone who bought the 3-packs gets a Thank-You Pendant Set (Heavenly Hog / Beelzeboar) from Dec 3. That post is the day’s engagement monster (~16K likes).
Platforms and where to play it
- Base Wilds: PS5 / Xbox / PC now; Switch 2 on Dec 4, with local wireless handheld multiplayer and crossplay confirmed.
- Ascendance: all of those platforms in 2027, including Switch 2 with title updates.
- TGS booth (world-first playable): three quests, Boost Bracer in all of them, plus the Teostra hunt. Live stage gameplay Sept 19.
- More demos: Paris Games Week Oct 22–25, TwitchCon San Diego Nov 13–15.
Bottom line: Teostra and Skybound Eyrie are the 2027 fantasy.
The reason hunters are loud today is Capcom finally shipping the mid-hunt quality-of-life the base game needed — and eating the voucher monetization in public.
