On September 28, Neil Druckmann closed The Last of Us Day with two things the studio will stand behind.
Two new projects in the Last of Us world are in very early stages, and both will expand the canon past Part I and Part II.
He did not say either one is a numbered Part III, or even that both are games.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet stays quiet through the rest of 2026.
A full reveal is set for 2027, with no release window.
He called it Naughty Dog’s most ambitious game yet.
The Uncharted claim landed a day later. MP1st, citing sources familiar with the studio, said Naughty Dog is on a new Uncharted that is not a remake.
VGC corroborated the report without adding detail.
Insider NateTheHate said on ResetEra that Shaun Escayg is on that project, and that it is not one of the two Last of Us jobs Druckmann just named.
Kotaku treated that as the extra check on the story.
Sony and Naughty Dog have not confirmed it.
What the report actually says:
- Shaun Escayg is leading it. He was creative director on Uncharted: The Lost Legacy with Kurt Margenau, worked on Uncharted 4, left for Crystal Dynamics on Marvel’s Avengers, and came back to Naughty Dog in 2021.
- Nathan Drake appears in some form. Lead, mentor, or cameo is not specified. Cassie Drake taking the lead is fan inference from the Uncharted 4 ending, not something the sources stated.
- It sits after Intergalactic in the claimed lineup, with the Last of Us projects after that. MP1st flagged that internal order can move.
- No platform, no date. A PS6 window is outside commentary, not part of the report. Naughty Dog has not shipped a new game on PS5.
The only public breadcrumb tied to Escayg is his own.
Earlier in 2026 he posted a photo of an old cannon at Fort George in Trinidad and Tobago and captioned it “research.” Tropical coast, ruins, cannon — the read people made was Uncharted.
It is not proof.
Social posts today are already stretching the report.
Claims that art director Tate Mosesian is back, that it has been in development three or four years, or that it is a locked “Uncharted 5” with Cassie as co-lead are not in the MP1st or VGC writeups. Treat those as pile-on.
