Marvel’s Wolverine is the week’s biggest launch: Insomniac’s PS5 exclusive goes live Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Reviews dropped September 10 and the picture is mixed-positive — strong character work and gore, weaker combat variety.
When it unlocks
Sony is using a simultaneous Eastern Time unlock, not midnight-local everywhere.
Eastern 12:00 a.m. Tue, Sept 15
Central 11:00 p.m. Mon, Sept 14
Mountain 10:00 p.m. Mon, Sept 14
Pacific 9:00 p.m. Mon, Sept 14
UK/EU typically get midnight local. Preload is live (~79 GB) with a day-one patch.
No early-access edition — Standard ($69.99) and Digital Deluxe ($79.99) unlock together. PS5 / PS5 Pro only (PSSR on Pro). No PC or other consoles announced.
What the game actually is
This is not another Insomniac open-world Spider-Man. It’s a linear, ~15–20 hour action-adventure: globe-trotting missions, scent tracking, big leaps, then claws-out slasher combat.
Story is original and set before the X-Men form. Logan is on Team X with Sabretooth and Mystique; Nathaniel Essex / Mr. Sinister (Troy Baker) is a major figure.
Jean Grey and Sabretooth get a lot of focus. Liam McIntyre voices Logan and is the most consistently praised part of the game.
Rated M: blood, decapitation, language. Combat is built around brutal melee, parries, stealth takedowns, and rage — reviewers say the feel of the claws is excellent; the depth is the problem.

What critics agree on
- Liam McIntyre’s Logan is a standout — gruff, funny, vulnerable. Jean and Sabretooth land too.
- Looks and sounds like a flagship PS5 game (Fidelity vs Performance; Pro looks especially sharp).
- The violence is the fantasy: snikt, dismemberment, unstoppable healing.
What they ding
- Combat shows its whole hand early and gets repetitive over 15 hours.
- Very linear, heavy hand-holding, thin optional content.
- Story/character work has to carry the back half once the fights feel samey.
Short version from the reviews: great Wolverine, good-not-great game — closer to a cinematic slasher than Spider-Man 2.
Launch extras
Limited Wolverine PS5 hardware/accessories drop with the game.
Deluxe adds extra suits/claws (including comic and artist collabs). Cross-promo costume with Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls.
