The Legend of Zelda is a real movie now, not a pitch.
Sony and Nintendo have it dated May 7, 2027. Wes Ball directs.
Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad produce. Sony Pictures is distributing and co-financing.
Principal photography ran in Wellington, New Zealand, from November 2025 and wrapped in April 2026.
Miyamoto has said he and Arad had been developing it for about ten years before the announcement.
The title is just The Legend of Zelda. Miyamoto confirmed that in the series’ 40th anniversary Direct.
No subtitle, no Ocarina of Time on the poster.
That is why the Direct landed flat with fans who wanted a teaser.
A first trailer is still only a rumor.
Sony did not show new footage at CinemaCon beyond confirming the wrap.
Cast that is official: Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link.
Miyamoto announced both in July 2025 and posted them in costume.
First on-set photos came through the Nintendo Today app in November 2025.
Cast that is reported, not studio-confirmed: Uli Latukefu as Ganondorf, Dichen Lachman as Impa, Yvonne Strahovski as a queen, Sam Neill in one of his final screen roles, and Lydia Peckham in an unannounced part.
Plot details are still locked. The public description is the usual one — Link and Zelda against Ganon in Hyrule.
Nintendo of America president and COO Devon Pritchard, at a Variety summit in September, called the Sony partnership one of the most exciting ways to take Zelda past current players.
She said the movie was coming at the end of April. The locked theatrical date is May 7.
